Rachel Banks Lyons

Rachel Banks Lyons, 92 of Winder, passed away Friday, September 16, 2022. She was a member of Winder First Baptist Church and served in the Saints Alive Senior Choir. Rachel was a native of Americus, GA, and a graduate of The University of Alabama, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in English. Rachel was a homemaker who loved to serve others. She was famous for giving her fudge and banana bread to friends and family. Rachel loved doing crossword puzzles, crocheting, and especially watching her Alabama football!

Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, Erasmus Beall Banks and Mary Goree Banks; her loving husband, Harold Dwight Lyons, Sr.; a son, Jeffrey David Lyons; and her siblings: Herbert Banks and Mary Green.

She is survived by three sons: Dwight Lyons (Helen Ruth) of King George, VA, Chris Lyons (Christie) of Winder, GA, and Steve Lyons (Kay) of Dallas, GA; six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday, September 19, 2022 at Smith Funeral Home, Winder, GA. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Winder First Baptist Church with Rev. Chad Mantooth officiating. Mrs. Lyons will lie in state at the church one hour prior to her service.

In Lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Winder First Baptist Building Fund.

Her interment will be in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont, PA.
