Jimmy (Jim) Gray Owens, born on May 5, 1947, peacefully departed from this world on February 18, 2024. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. Jim's unwavering spirit and dedication to his family, community, and faith leave behind a legacy that will forever be cherished.
Survived by his devoted wife, Elga Easom Owens, Jim's love and commitment to her were unwavering throughout their years together. He was the loving father of Chad Owens and his wife Christy of Wilson, Spencer Owens and his wife Jenny of Cleveland, Tennessee. His grandchildren, Connor Owens, Grayson Owens, Genevieve Owens, Chloe Owens, and Cara Owens were the light of his life, and he took immense joy in watching them grow.
Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Mavis Batchelor Owens Amerson, his father, Marvin Owens, his brother, Marvin Owens Jr., and sister, Rae Hughes. He is survived by his sister, Sue Dietlin and husband, Chuck, of Greensboro, who shared many cherished memories with him.
Jim dedicated thirty years of his life to serving his community as a Captain with Wilson Fire and Rescue Services. His bravery, leadership, and selflessness touched countless lives, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working alongside him.
Outside of his professional life, Jim found solace and strength in his faith. A dedicated member of Wave Church Wilson, he found joy in worship, fellowship, and serving others. His faith was a guiding light, providing him with comfort and strength through life's challenges.
Jimmy (Jim) Gray Owens will be remembered for his humor, kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his loved ones. His legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew him.
A celebration of Jim's life will be held at Wave Church Wilson on Saturday February 24th, 2024, where family and friends will come together to honor his memory and the impact he had on the lives of so many. Visitation will begin at 1:00PM and the celebration of life service will begin at 2:00PM. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wave Church Wilson in honor of Jim's memory.
He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
