Victoria Lacang Scafidi, was a loving mother,Lola, sister, aunt, friend, and a beacon of light and laughter to those that knew her. She sadly passed away at the age of 80 on August 21, 2023 in her apartment she shared with her daughter in Wilmington, NC.
She spent most of her life working very hard to support not only her immediate family, but her extended family back home in the Philippines. Her unselfish acts of love for her family enabled her nieces and nephews to complete their education so they could provide a better life for themselves and their families moving forward.
Victoria did not complete her formal education in the Philippines as she was needed to help her parents and siblings maintain a simple life. Through her determination, she received her GED after moving to the states.
She attended classes, learned to speak english, Dad taught her to drive, and made many friends from different culture and background in California.
She was the loving wife of Dominick Scafidi(deceased); mother to, Lea(deceased) and to devoted daughter, Maria Gilligan, and had an unwavering love for her only grandchild, Ethan Gilligan. She is survived by her sister, Anita Lafferty (Larry), and brother, Pedro Hermanos(Yolly) as well as many nieces and nephews, and Scafidi in-laws.
Victoria had a laughter, a sparkle in her eyes, and a heart of gold. She would quite literally give you the shirt off her back. She was a hard working person who would often receive awards from her employers recognizing her work ethics and congeniality. They would have kept her on forever at Treasure Island Hotel and Casino Resort in Las Vegas as a sushi buffet line worker if it wasn't her memory loss due to Alzheimer's. Victoria was an amazing cook. She could whip up the most amazing Filipino food this side of the equator. And, she was always ready to feed you regardless if you ate or not.
Her earthly body has transcended to her heavenly eternal resting place, but her spirit and memory will live on to those she touched.
Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday August 30, 2023 at St Mark Catholic Church , 1011 Eastwood Road, Wilmington, NC 28403.
