Born in Joliet, IL, on December 6, 1959, Tim was the son of the late Cecile Faye Todd and Gerald Maynard Hall. He spent his formative years in Minooka, IL, where he attended Minooka Community High School. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Laurie Anne Close, whom he married in March of 1979. In 1982, Tim and Laurie embarked on a new chapter together when they relocated to Wilmington, NC, driven by work opportunities.
Tim's essence was that of a gentle soul and a devoted family man. His nurturing spirit was evident in his passion for coaching his daughters' softball teams and in the joy he found in creating lasting memories during family vacations. The laughter shared while playing in the yard with his cherished grandchildren held a special place in his heart. Tim held an unwavering passion for the Chicago Bears and Cubs teams. Among his more recent television fascinations were “Perry Mason” and the captivating content presented by Jeff Thurman on YouTube. He found solace in tinkering in his garage and took pleasure in meticulously tending to the chore of mowing the grass with his John Deer. His all-time favorite movie was “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” a film he cherished to the point of having every line committed to memory, a fact he would joyfully demonstrate through frequent and spot-on quotes.
Throughout his life, Tim epitomized hard work and dedication. His journey began humbly, stocking shelves at Eagles grocery store in Morris, IL. Upon settling in Wilmington, he joined Federal Paper Board (later known as International Paper) on 23rd Street, where he committed nearly three decades of his life until the plant's closure in 2010. Undeterred by this change, he embarked on a new chapter as a quality control technician at Coatings and Adhesives in Leland, NC, where he served until his medical retirement in February 2023.
Tim is survived by his adoring wife of 44 years, Laurie Hall (Close) and his children: Todd Hall Jr., Melissa (Kyle) Lewis, and Miranda (Rachel) Hall, all residents of Wilmington, NC. He held a special place in his heart for his role as Papa to Sophia Lewis, Madison Lewis, Parker Hall, and Mallory Hall. He is also remembered as a caring brother to Geraldine Olson and Maynard (Kathy) Hall, both residing in Illinois, and as a beloved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews spread across North Carolina and Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecile and Gerald Hall, as well as his in-laws Sylvia and Richard Close. Additionally, he mourned the loss of his brother-in-law Richard Close and niece Angela Pinder.
The Hall family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Duke University Bone Marrow Transplant team and the compassionate nursing staff of the Intensive Care Unit, whose kindness provided comfort during Tim's final days.
The family will receive friends and family Thursday, August 31st from 6-8pm at Coble Funeral and Cremation Services at Greenlawn Memorial Park - 1155 Shipyard Blvd. in Wilmington. Graveside services will be held Friday, September 1st at 11am at Oleander Memorial Gardens - 306 Bradley Drive in Wilmington.
