Celebration of a Life Well Lived
Robert Lee Carter, age 82, unexpectedly passed away on Saturday September 3, 2022 while working in the yard at his home in Wilmington, NC. Bob was a devoted and loving husband to his wife Maria and he absolutely adored his canine companion Cinnamon. Bob, Maria and Cinnamon enjoyed daily outings in their community, local parks and nearby beaches.
Bob was an amazing man who epitomized optimism, resilience and kindness to others. He was raised in the Ohio Veterans Children's Home in Zenia, Ohio. At 17 years of age, he joined the Navy. Over the next 20+ years he proudly served his country in the Navy, and in the Army Special Forces as a Paratrooper, then as a member of the National Guard. Post military, he was awed and inspired by the emergence of computer technology and he spent the remainder of his professional career as a computer programmer and analyst.
He was a loving father who led by example and never gave up on his desire for a better future. He is greatly respected, loved and survived by his brother, Charles Carter; his wife Maria and his children: Melissa Dixon, Bobbi Carter, Steven Carter, Janet Warren, and Julie Mallin, as well as his many grandchildren. May his spirit, optimism, enthusiasm and boundless energy live on in the memories of all who loved him dearly and may we continue to honor and celebrate his life well lived.
A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 10:00am on Monday September 26, 2022 at the Salisbury National Cemetery, 202 Government Road, Salisbury, NC 28144.
