Susana Rios, a longtime resident of Foggy Bottom in the District of Columbia, passed away on Saturday the 24th of July from injuries sustained in a tragic accident while vacationing with family in North Carolina.
Susana, known as Susy to her friends, was born on the 4th of March 1934 in Larroque, Entre Rios, Argentina. She was the daughter of Agustin Regino Siboldi, a pharmacist, rancher, and politician, and Manuela Romero de Siboldi. She is the third of six siblings, who were raised in Gualeguaychú, Argentina where her father was first mayor then Senator.
Susy emigrated to the United States in 1959 and settled in Washington where she initially worked as a pharmacy technician at the Washington Hospital Center. Originally trained as a schoolteacher, Susy taught Spanish at the Washington International School for over a decade. Always craving adventure, Susy trained as a travel agent, allowing her to indulge the desire to see the world. Throughout her life, Susy traveled from Europe to China to Russia to Africa, always eager for a new adventure. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling with her children and grandchildren.
Susy has always been an active community member and philanthropist. She has long been a parishioner and supporter of Saint Stephen Martyr Church, as well as a supporter and board member of the Mary’s Center in the District of Columbia. On evenings and weekends, she could frequently be found with the local unhoused population, providing them with food, money, and fellowship.
Susy is preceded in death by her mother Manuela, her father Agustin Regino, her stepmother Raquel, her sister Christina, and her brother Agustin Benito.
Susy is survived by three sisters: Guillermina, Mercedes, and Elsa Teresa as well as her children: Cynthia, Patrick, and daughter-in-law Monica and grandchildren: Max, Alejandra, Mariana, Jules, Carolina, and Nicolas, as well as countless much beloved family in Argentina.
A celebration of life will be held at 6 PM on Monday, the 2nd of August at Saint Stephen Martyr Church. To honor her wishes, donations to Saint Stephen Martyr Catholic Church and the Mary’s Center are preferred in lieu of flowers.
She will rest in peace in Gualeguaychú, Argentina alongside her family.
