Ms. Ganey drove race cars as a young woman and worked very hard to support her family as a waitress and a welder over the years. She retired after many years with Louisiana Pacific as a quality control inspector. She was well known to be the rock of her large extended family, often caring for others and sharing her home. She loved playing country and gospel music, salt water fishing, gardening and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed country music dancing and family cookouts, often singing with her brother, Claude Deas and sister, Brenda Fisher along with her nephew, Randy Fisher.
Evelyn knew no greater joy than spending time with her children and grandchildren. She lived a life of endless energy and was always found sprucing up her yard, remodeling something around the house, or tinkering with her tools. If something needed repaired she would be the one to do it, not a service to be paid for. Her shed was nearly as big as her house to accommodate all her tools she needed.
After her retirement she worked side by side with her son and daughters, along with grandchildren in David’s business and kept a tight control over anything she was tasked with. Her honesty and integrity were unmatched, never shy to remind someone if they crossed a line. She taught her family how to survive the darkest of times and the best of times. She will never be forgotten by those who loved and admired her.
She is survived by her son, David Peterson and wife Amanda, daughters Tamara “Tammy” Peterson Craig and Deborah Carole Peterson, brother, Claude “JR” and wife Rosemary, ten grandchildren: Jason Craig, Eryn Williams Stella, Timothy Peterson, Cheston Sakalauskas, Sam Clemmons, Jordan Peterson, Cierra Ormsby, McKenzy Peterson, Hailey Peterson, Gage Peterson and thirteen great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Graveside service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Oleander Memorial Garden, 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, NC 28409.
