Leah (Lillian) Davis, 96, of Raleigh, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 29, 2021. The youngest of four children, she was born and raised in New York. After graduation from high school, she worked as a secretary for the Union Carbide Corporation, where she played a minor role in the World War II Manhattan Project. At the same time, she supported her mother, who had been widowed when Leah was 10 years old. Following her marriage to Bernard Davis, she moved to North Carolina and devoted herself to raising a family. Leah had a deep and abiding love of Judaism and served as treasurer of her local Hadassah chapter for many years. She was a wonderful and loving mother who emphasized the importance of education and the belief in a solid family foundation. Although a very private person, she had a great sense of humor, and even in the final stages of Alzheimer’s Disease she was able to joke with her family and caregivers.
Leah was predeceased by her husband, two brothers, and a sister. She is survived by her children Joanie (Neil), Bob (Beth), and Mark (Marcia); and by her grandchildren Dillon, Rebecca, Ben, Austin, Jack, Ted, and Lea. The family would like to thank her truly wonderful caregivers Wilter, Flo, Lydia, Margaret, and Alice for the care and support they provided in her closing years.
A graveside funeral service will be held at B’nai Israel Cemetery in Wilmington, NC on Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. Donations can be made to Hadassah at https://www.hadassah.org/ or Hadassah, Attention Donor Services, PO Box 1100, New York, NY 10268.
