Joanne M. LaFlamme passed away on June 17, 2021 after a brief illness. She was married to her soulmate and best friend, Norman E. LaFlamme until his death in 2000. Joanne Laflamme was born in Winsted, Conneticut on July 1, 1938 and graduated from Gilbert High School in 1956.
She was the daughter of the late Lester F. Hannafin and Mary A. Trepczynski.
Joni and Norman lived in CT, FL and VT, where they were proprietors of the Chippenhook Store in Arlington for many years. Joni had a very strong work ethic and adapted to many positions throughout her life requiring diverse skills: insurance adjuster, bookkeeper, sales rep, store owner and employer, sandwich maker, receptionist and, above all, loving mother and grandmother. She moved to Wilmington about 20 years ago, after the death of her husband Norman. She found her final niche as the well loved receptionist for many years in the office of Dr. James Demetrious, working right up until her admission to the hospital. In addition to her love of the beach, Joni loved shopping and going to shows at Thalian Hall. She was a lover of all kinds of music, enjoyed the concerts at Ft. Fisher, Airlie Gardens, Carolina Beach and Kure Beach throughout the summer. But her music of choice for cleaning was hip hop. In 1958, Joni was part of the Miss Winsted Jaycee Pageant and won Miss Congeniality, a title that speaks volumes of the kind of personality she had. She loved to meet and chat with people everywhere she went, always interested in their lives, their families and their feelings.
Joni will be deeply missed by her two children Scott LaFlamme (Denise) and Glen LaFlamme (Stacey) both of Florida, grandchildren, John LaFlamme, Ashley LaFlamme and Sloane LaFlamme, her sisters, Sandy Ettinger and Dee Doherty (Ken), both of Wilmington, NC, her brother Larry Hannafin (Sally) who resides in Norfolk, CT, and her niece Sarah and nephews Nemo and Dennis.
