Grace Marie Taylor Swain, 93, passed away peacefully under home hospice care at her son’s home in Vero Beach, Florida on Sunday, March 13, 2022. She was born August 26, 1928 in Wilmington, North Carolina to the late Wilbur Jennings Taylor Sr. and Bessie Pearl Covil.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, William James Swain Sr.; son: Jeffery Michael Swain Sr.; sisters: Laura Gretchen Taylor Vezina, Joyce Elaine Taylor Easter, Lucy Taylor Woods, and Patricia Taylor Lindsey; and brothers: Wilbur Delano Taylor, Wilbur Jennings Taylor Jr, and Luther Hill “Billy” Taylor.
Grace enjoyed a career in retail clothing sales in Wilmington. She was co-owner of Liz-Marie Sportswear and Joy-Marie Sportswear in Long Leaf Shopping Center. Grace and her late husband Bill were active members of Winter Park Baptist Church for over 50 years, prior to her moving to Vero Beach, Florida in 2015 to be with her son Jim.
She is survived by one son: William James Swain Jr. (Vivian); five grandchildren: Jeffery Michael Swain Jr., Katherine Anne Marie Quinn (Corey), Emily Marie Swain (Joel Hanson), Patrick James Swain, and Heather Ann Swain; and three great-grandchildren: Finn Oliver Hanson, Fiona Rose Hanson, and Kaydance Jade Swain; one sister: Nell Taylor Teachey; one brother: Winston Cordell “Corky” Taylor (Marcia); and many loving nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Thursday, March 24, 2022 from 10-11am at Coble Funeral and Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington, followed by a funeral service at 11am in the chapel officiated by Mike Womble, Associate Pastor for Winter Park Baptist Church. Grace will be buried beside her late husband at Oleander Memorial Gardens. The burial will be private.
