Jean Groce Joyner, 80, of Wrightsville Beach died Tuesday, October 11, 2022 while at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare's hospice care center. A native of Sanford, NC, Jean moved to Wrightsville Beach in 1983, and was a 1989 graduate of The University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
After an early career as co-partner and associate for Al Joyner & Associates; Jean worked for The Wolfpack Club, UNC-W, Clinical Investigation Review Board, Northern Telecom, Lower Cape Fear Hospice and New Hanover Health Network.
She is survived by her daughter, Jan Ritchie and husband Chris of Crofton MD; her son, Jay Joyner and wife Julie of Wake Forest, NC; and by her grandchildren Tyler and Claire Joyner.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Al Joyner, and by her parents, Thomas Gilmore and Verlie McNeill Groce, and by her brother David.
A memorial service will take place on Saturday, October 15, at 2:00 PM at the Wrightsville United Methodist Church, 4 Live Oak Drive, Wrightsville Beach, NC. As an expression of sympathy, memorable gifts may be made to the Wrightsville UMC , PO Box 748, Wrightsville Beach, NC 28480.
