Edna Jarrell Teachey English, age 96, of Wilmington, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 21, 2013. She is survived by her son Dr. Jerold Teachey and daughter Sharon Teachey Dickerson; her daughter-in-law, Dr. Jan Petri; her son-in-law Rev. DeWayne Dickerson; her six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Edna was born on January 14, 1917 to Reuben Benjamin and Mary Powell Jarrell. She was raised in a minister’s home with her brothers and sisters Rex, Rudolph, Ruth, Gladys, and Ralph. As she grew in a Christian home, she and her two sisters formed the Jarrell Sisters Trio. They performed in Wilmington and surrounding areas, were on the radio and participated in singing competitions. Edna continued with her own musical pursuits after marrying Cannell Teachey in 1939. As a minister’s wife she remained actively involved in church work, particularly through singing and playing the piano, her true passions. In addition, she taught Sunday School and worked in many areas of ministry. Cannell Teachey passed away in February 1992. Edna later married Barney W. English, with whom she spent the next 17 years pastoring and ministering. Edna was above all, a strong Christian lady who will always be remembered as a “survivor”. She lived a long, fulfilling and joyful life, surrounded by a loving family and will be greatly missed.
The funeral services will be held Monday, November 25 at 1:00 PM, with visitation beginning at 12:00 PM at Pine Valley Church of God on Shipyard Boulevard. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
The staff of Coble Ward-Smith is honored to serve the family of Edna Jarrell Teachey English.
