He was born in Burgaw, NC on October 29, 1937 to the late Thomas and Jessie Batson. He is also preceded in death by his brothers; Russell, Donald and Ray and sisters; Virginia, Laurice and Martha.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of 57 years; two daughters; Pam Springer(Robert) and Tammy Callihan
(Preston); four grandchildren, Zack, Steve, Ashley and Katie; sisters, Carolyn and Peggy and many special nieces and nephews.
After retirement from the Wilmington Star News after 45 years, he enjoyed spending his time working in the garden.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday June 8, 2019 at noon with Pastor Rudy Shepard officiating at Peace Baptist Church, 320 Military Cutoff Road, Wilmington, NC 28405, where he was a member.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Peace Baptist church.
