William “Billy” Alva Moore, Jr. 56, of Wilmington, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at his residence. He was born on September 4, 1961, in Wilmington, the son of William A. Moore, Sr. and Mary Elizabeth Moore. He was predeceased by his father.
Surviving are his mother, Mary Elizabeth Moore of the home and two sisters – Phyllis Moore Buie and Paula Moore Long; one nephew Donnie M. Buie (Crystal); two nieces, Kristi Buie Parrish and Alexandria Long; and one great nephew, Cody E. Parrish, currently serving in the US Navy.
Billy was a 1979 graduate of New Hanover High School. He was employed with Lowes Foods for more than 25 years; prior to Lowes Foods, he worked with Parker’s and Hannaford’s food stores. Billy was a dedicated employee and received several awards for his hard work and dependability. Billy was a loving, devoted son and family member. As a doting son, Billy made sure that his mother was well taken care of, and they always enjoyed their shopping and lunches out on Saturdays. He was a book, movie and music enthusiast and collector. On his days off, Billy would be on the hunt for movies, records and books to add to his extensive collection. He was very knowledgeable of “all things Hollywood,” and enjoyed chatting about movies. In addition, he cared for his neighborhood’s birds and squirrels daily that he affectionately referred to as “Billy’s Babies.” Feeding them was a favorite pastime of his, and Billy always made sure that they had plenty to eat.
A graveside service will be held at Oleander Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 12 PM.
