Walter Roth, 89, loving son of the late Markus, Selma and Toni; beloved husband of 63 years of Dr. Chaya (nee Horowitz); devoted father of Ari (Kate), Judy (Stephen), and Miriam (Mark); cherished grandfather of Isabel, Sophie, Miko, Tema, Jonah, Ez, and Talia; dear brother of Helen (Lowell) and the late Herbert (late Elsa) and Irene. Caring uncle of Janet (Tony), Deborah (Jeff), Mark, Ronald (Kyla), Rebecca (Michael), and Dan. Walter immigrated to Chicago from Roth, Germany in 1938. A graduate of University of Illinois (Circle Campus) and University of Chicago Law School, Walter was an accomplished attorney, past president of the Chicago Jewish Historical Society for over two decades, and author of six books focusing on Chicago Jewish history and his own immigration story. Walter served in many leadership roles in Jewish and civic organizations including American Jewish Congress, Congregation Rodfei Zedek, Akiba-Schechter Jewish Day School, and the Self-Help Home. Funeral service Monday, January 21 at 11:30 am at Rodfei Zedek, 5200 S. Hyde Park Blvd, Chicago. Interment Tuesday, January 22 at 2:00 pm at Jewish Oakridge Cemetery, 4301 Roosevelt Road, Hillside.
