Robert W. Brumitt, 90, died peacefully at home in Wilmette on June 7, 2014. He was born in East St. Louis, Illinois to Hazel Spangler and Robert Lee Brumitt and grew up in nearby Edwardsville. After high school he served in the Navy and went on to graduate from DePauw University in 1949, where he was a proud member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. He was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Wilmette. There he served as an Elder and Trustee, and was involved in Adult Education and was a Sunday school teacher until recently. After retiring from his career as a manufacturer's representative, he volunteered at the Chicago Botanic Gardens, and was able to spend more time in his own vegetable garden. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and was happiest spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marjorie (nee Fick), his children, Jane, William (Yvana), Ellen (Robert) Brown, and Nan (Edward) Scott, his grandchildren, Haley, Stuart and Connor Brown, Ella Brumitt, Cullen, Brennan and Maeve Scott., his brothers Richard (Barbara) and Roland (Vicki) Brumitt, brother-in-law, John (Carol) Fick and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Brumitt and sisters-in-law, Janice Brumitt and Virginia (late John) Fellows. Visitation Friday, June 13, 5-8 PM at Wm H. Scott Funeral Home, 1100 Greenleaf, Wilmette. Interment will be private. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 14, 11 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Wilmette, 600 Ninth St., Wilmette, IL 60091.
