Ida Mayer passed away early morning July 7 in hospice at Lieberman. The helpful medical professionals kept Ida comfortable and her family on top of things. Even her many attempts to escape did not dampen their enthusiasm.
Ida is survived by her daughter, Lisa; her son, Peter, his wife Mary, and their children, Madeleine and Margot. She was preceded in death by Richard her husband of 68 years. The last of her generation, Ida had many nieces and nephews who fondly recall her advice no matter how it came and tales from her life. She was also like an aunt to the children of very close family friends, the Caddens.
Ida began life in Davenport, Iowa where she was born a Greenswag. After high school Ida followed her sister Reg to the University of Michigan (Go Blue). Upon graduation, Ida once more followed Reg to the big Windy, Chicago
Ida loved the game of golf and was a long-time member of the Sunset Valley Women’s Golf League. Ida played 3-5 times a week, walking the entire course well into her early 80’s (age not golf score). Even though she won several trophies, Ida was plagued by not being able to putt worth a hoot. She was famous for telling stories about what she should have shot.
Politics and current affairs were a passion. Ida watched the entire Watergate proceedings and was a life-long C-SPAN fan. She read the NYT religiously and quoted it often. She freely shared her views with people of all political persuasions. Ida threatened to move to Canada when Ronald Regan and Donald Trump were elected president.
Ida had a career in Human Resources Training and Development. She worked for Xerox Learning Systems where she conducted sales training workshops. Eventually, she left to create her own consultancy whose services were sought after by several major companies.
Her family is happy to know she is walking that big golf course in the sky.
