Alan M. Yaffe, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024 at the age of 88. A third-generation owner and managing partner of Piser Chapels, he leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and tireless dedication to his family, friends, and community.
Born and raised in Winnetka, Illinois, Alan graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1957, where he was a proud member of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity. His college years were marked by lifelong friendships and a deep-rooted passion for community service, which he carried with him throughout his life. It was in Madison that Alan met his future wife, Lois Rubovits, with whom he would share over 65 years of loving marriage.
Alan was a fixture in the Jewish community through his commitment to organizations including the Jewish United Fund (JUF), the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago (JFDA), the Young Men's Jewish Council (YMJC), and the Jewish Council for Youth Services. He was also an active member of the North Shore Congregation Israel.
Family was at the heart of Alan's life. He was a devoted husband to Lois, and a loving father to Scott (Wannee), Ken (Susan), and Lynn (Dan). His seven grandchildren - Charlie, Kira, Julia, Nikki, Lucas, Chloe, and Noah were his greatest passion, and he never missed an opportunity to call and check in, or to share joyfully in the events of their lives.
He loved time on the golf course at Briarwood Country Club, where he served as president from 1988-1989. A life-long Chicagoan, Alan always had an eye on the Chicago sports scene, and his beloved Wisconsin Badgers.
Alan lived his life in service to his family and his community. May his memory be a blessing.
A Memorial Service will be held at North Shore Congregation Israel on Monday, June 10th at 3:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charitable organization of your choice in Alan's memory.
