Barbara Connolly Walsh

Born in Washington, D.C., Barbara was the daughter of William Francis (Frank) Connolly and Anna (Nana) Frances Sullivan Connolly.

She received her bachelor's degree in French and Spanish Literature from George Washington University where she was initiated into Delta Gamma Sorority. As a college student she was a member of the George Washington University Traveling Troubadours glee club, and is remembered for her solo, "Ave Maria," that she performed at U.S. military bases around the globe, including Greenland, Iceland, Japan, Libya and the Azores.

Barbara worked at Bell Aerospace near Buffalo and Douglas Aircraft Corporation in California. On returning to Buffalo, she was a member of St. Mark’s Church choir and St. Joseph’s University Parish choir.

Barbara enjoyed helping others, evidenced by her years of service in social work. She was employed by the Erie County Department of Social Services, Erie County Medical Center, Manhattan Manor Nursing Home and Millard Fillmore Hospital, Gates Circle. After retirement she volunteered at Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

Barbara will be remembered as a loving and supportive mother and grandmother who had a generous spirit, a kind heart and a wonderful sense of humor.

She is survived by three children, Christopher S. Walsh, MD (Jill), Kathleen Anne Donohue, and Sarah Elizabeth Walsh-Brown (Chris), and eight grandchildren: Andrew, Libby and Meg Walsh, Colleen and Caitlin Donohue, and Sean, Matthew and Jason Szucs, and her sister, Mary B. Persinger (Gary), and many nieces and nephews.
