"All those burning bridges that have fallen after me..."

When I met Steve at Ohio Tech in September of 1973 I'd never heard of "Kelly's Heroes" and had never heard the theme song, but Steve was, to put it lightly, a devotee of the film. He, like the rest of us, was a nerdy kid who was on his first adventure away from home. I was from Pittsburgh and had never heard of Williamston. He was a friendly kid and could light up a room with his smile and could make friends instantly. My forte was CB radios, his was just about anything that used electricity. 

I graduated in 1975 and returned home. I never knew what happened to Steve, and the only reason I'm here is because the bridge explosion in Ukraine jogged my memory. 
If you want a picture to remember Steve by, the scene near the end of "Kelly's Heroes" in the bank with Kilroy says it all...

"Burning bridges lost forevermore."

My deepest condolences and prayers for the family. Steve was always kind to me! A great cook, a bright mind, and a wonderful uncle to Ian. I hope for quick healing to the whole family. He was a good man. ❤️

 from ALL of the Redick Family !    We are so sadden to hear of  your loss of Steve.    Paula and I were BEST FRIENDS  in our pre-teen years, so I feel  like Steve was  like another  brother to me.  Steve and  Tom would always be looking out for  Paula and I  as we spent hours walking around the neighborhood,  to school and the pool !  I remember  thinking  Steve was SOOOO SMART !  He  often talked to me about Science  TECHY   ideas...  I barely grasped  to  understand... but maybe he  planted a  seed for my interest  in  Science as now I  AM  a Science  teacher.  LIL DOUG followed in Steve's  TECHY  path !   I wish I could be there to  give  Paula and  ALL of you a  big hug !  It was a Joy seeing  you Tom , Mr. and Mrs. Hendershot in August ! So sorry to hear of Steven's passing.  We remember how Steve was always working on electronics and was up to something!  Good times there on Quinlin drive.

I had the pleasure of knowing Steve through TransDev/CATA. He was such a pleasure to talk with, but always quick to correct you if he felt he needed to. He had such a great personality.  I enjoyed many conversations with Steve.  Many times our conversations consisted of hunting and firearms. He will be dearly missed. My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to his family during this hard time. RIH, Steve!

To the Hendershot family, Chris and I send our deepest sympathy.  I knew Steven as his high school guidance counselor, and I admired him for his character, academics, and his brilliance.  Because I was so impressed with him, I have very clear memories of sitting down with him and discussing his test scores and his future path.  I remember thinking, wow, this boy can do anything he wants because of his ability.   As with most of my students, I lost touch with him after he graduated, but I never forgot him.
