Sharon “Sherry” Marie Young, beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, passed away peacefully at the age of 76, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, kindness, and cherished memories. Known for her love of family and friends, Sherry brought people together with her warm smile and an open heart.
Born July 21st, 1948 in Ann Arbor, MI to John J Carroll and Catherine A (Goetz) Carroll. Sherry was the second of seven children. She grew up in Birmingham, Michigan where she graduated from Marian High School in 1966. Later, she earned a degree in business which led to a successful career and a lifelong occupation. Sherry had a special place in her heart for going “Up North” to the family cottage on Mullett Lake. As a child, she spent many summers there.
She continued that tradition with her own family, her siblings and their children
In 1978, while working at the Vickers corporation in Troy, MI, Sherry (aka Scoop) was the starting first baseman on the company softball team where she met her coach and future husband, Mark. They were married on March 15th, 1986 and had their only child, Matthew on July 22, 1987. The family moved to Williamston, MI in Fall 1987.
For over 25 years, Sherry worked as the office manager at the Brookshire Inn and Golf Club in Williamston, where she became a mentor and second mother to countless college students beginning their first jobs. Her influence reached far beyond her own family, as she shared her wisdom, humor, and unwavering support with young people as they started their careers.
During this time she also helped run the Tuesday all-women’s golf league “The Brooker Babes” where Sherry, a natural athlete, was often competing for titles.
Sherry had a special gift for making everyone feel like family, greeting each person she met with a genuine interest in their lives. Her laughter and kindness filled any room she was in, and her open heart made her a cherished presence in the lives of family and friends alike.
This compassion extended to all creatures, and she was a devoted animal lover who always had a place in her heart and home for pets in need. During her early childhood Sherry even offered her entire allowance as collateral to help secure the first family dog.
Though she has left this world, Sherry’s spirit and legacy will live on through the countless lives she touched. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate to know her. She is survived by her loving husband, Mark, her son, Matthew, daughter-in-law Dorothy and her many friends and family members who adored her.
Sharon’s memorial service will be held on November 8th, 2024 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Williamston, MI. The family suggests that memorial contributions be directed to the Capital Area Humane Society, 7095 West Grand River Avenue, Lansing, MI 48906
