Ronald "Bruce" Fettes, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, neighbor, and friend, passed away on July 29, 2018, at the age of 73. He was born August 26, 1944 in Alpena, Michigan to Mitchell and Lola Fettes.
Bruce spent his childhood growing up in the great outdoors of northern Michigan, where he became adept at fishing, deer hunting, and working hard. Later, he moved downstate in search of work constructing dormitories on the campus of M.S.U. While living in Williamston, he met the love of his life and wife of 53 years, Patricia (Pat) Gottschalk. Together, they had two children, Ronald (Ronnie) and Sheri. Bruce became a much loved member of his wife's large family of brothers and sisters.
Bruce was a kind, gentle, and giving person, always the first to volunteer on family projects or help a friend or family member in need. A self-taught mechanic, he learned to fix cars and farm equipment at a young age. At times, he would assist with car repairs in the bitter winter cold. He spent many enjoyable falls hunting with his son Ronnie and friends.
He became an accomplished carpenter, coming down with emphysema later in his career. He retired to spend his final years at home with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, brother Bill, and his son, Ronnie. He is survived by his wife Pat; daughter Sheri; grandchildren Amanda, Tiffany, and Nicholas Poland; Rebecca, Nicole, Ashten, and Mitchell Fettes; and special nephew, Stevie Gottschalk.
Services to be held at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Williamston on Saturday, August 4th, at 1 pm with visitation one hour before. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to the Humane Society.
The family expresses their gratitude to Michael Crosby RN of Sparrow Hospice Services and Stevie Gottschalk for their kind and gracious assistance.
