Harold “Jack” Curtis, age 88, of Williamston, died Friday, March 11, 2022.
Harold was born on October 15, 1933 in Lansing, Michigan to Lawrence and Ruby (Strayer) Curtis. He graduated from Dansville High School and Lansing Business College, and served in the U.S. Army, stationed in Japan following the Korean War. In 1955, Harold married his wife of 66 years Neva J. (Johnson) Curtis, and she survives him.
Harold worked briefly for Oldsmobile in Lansing, but his true calling was farming. He owned and operated Curtis Family Farms until his “retirement,” but his love of the land occupied his heart and mind right to the very end.
Harold served as Wheatfield Township Supervisor for over 25 years, a work that he enjoyed immensely as it tapped into his strengths: a head for details, a respect for the land, and his love for telling a good story (or three). He loved sports, and especially following MSU and the Detroit Tigers. He was a member of Wheatfield United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Freemasons.
Harold was preceded in death by his son Mark Curtis. He is survived by his wife Neva; son Michael Curtis (Elizabeth); daughters Lori Sykes (Gary) and Lisa Abel (Michael); daughter-in-law Nancy Curtis; grandchildren Sean Bain, Eric Curtis, Brad Curtis (Anna), Megan Curtis, Geoffrey Sykes, Kelcee Sykes, Chase Abel, Cole Abel (Jennifer), and Dylan Abel; great-grandchildren Helen Curtis, Michael Curtis, and Shepard Abel.
The Curtis family will welcome visitors on Friday, March 18th from 11:00am – 12:00pm with a Memorial Service to celebrate his life immediately following at 12:00pm at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home at 205 East Middle St., Williamston, Michigan 48895. Committal Service will also take place at Fairview Cemetery in Dansville, Michigan.
Contributions in Harold's memory may be made to Wheatfield United Methodist Church.
