Wednesday 5/13/1936 - Thursday 4/28/2022
Little Charles Arnold was born in Detroit in the middle of a record setting heat wave on May 13, 1936. He was the baby brother to his three older sisters, Shirley, Jeanne and Fran. He was born to Arnold and Ellen Pratt from Dexter and Newberry Michigan . Arnold and Ellen both graduated from U of M with prestigious degrees which likely helped them to instill the hard working mentality that their four children were so well known for.
In his sophomore year Charles came across the cutest little blond he's ever seen and knew right away that Kay would be the one. Their first date was to their high school football game and to the sock hop immediately following. They entered into a blessed union at St. Monica's Catholic Church of Detroit where they were the first couple married in the brand new church. They began their honeymoon with a visit to Washington DC and the Smokies and like all Catholic couples it's been absolute bliss ever since.
A quality Charles and Kay shared with other blissful Catholic couples was their ability (desire) to carry on the family name, and so they did! They became the proud parents of Laurie (Mike) Braun, Chris (Jamie) Pratt, Cathy (Hung) Trinh, Susan Crilley, Sharon (Lupe)Anzaldua, Jim and Karen (Chris)Blank. As time went by those seven promoted Charles and Kay to grandparents of 15 and great grandparents of 14 with a new one on the way. They are very proud of all their children and grandchildren.
Throughout his life Charles wore many hats. He was an obedient, humble devout Roman Catholic. He volunteered many years to the Lions Club, Boy Scouts of America and the Knights of Columbus. He was a dedicated and tireless social worker. He earned his Masters Degree while he worked at the Boys Training School with 6 children. He worked for the Michigan Department of Social Services until retiring in 1998.
He was an adoring husband to his beautiful wife and encouraging and supportive father to his seven children.
He loved sailing, building and flying his model RC airplanes, reading about the history of Catholicism and world-wide happenings. He would engage anyone in battles of trivial facts., FYI he always won.
Most of all, he loved his family. Family was the reason for his existence, and we all loved him dearly.
So with heavy hearts we stood by as he entered the gates of Heaven to be with his parents, sisters and all who have gone before him on Thursday April 28, 2022.
Please join our family as we celebrate the man we all knew and loved so dearly.
