Charles Edward Hendershot Jr.

Charles Edward Hendershot Jr., age 92, passed away on June 12, 2024 at home surrounded by family in Williamston, Michigan. He was born August 23, 1931 to Georgia (Heiney) and Charles Edward Hendershot, Sr. in Paintsville, Kentucky. Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Aggie (Dauphinais), and his surviving children Thomas (Gail Larson), Paula (Felix Coste) and Douglas. Grandchildren: Kelly (Dayz Dunican), Jessica (Dean Redding), Colin (Emily), lan (Liz), bonus grandsons Ryan and Trevor Martin. Great grandson Connor and new great grandson due in December. His sister Joanne (Gerald deceased) and their 2 sons Jay (Tricia) and Jon (Lisa). Also, loving brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephew, cousins and multiple extended family.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, his first born son Steven (October 23, 2021) and eldest sister Betty Akom and her deceased husband Bernard, their son, Ron and his sister Linda Akom.

Chuck was a devoted father & caring husband to his wife Aggie and they celebrated 70 years of marriage in February 2024.

His life was marked by his commitment of service: as a teen he was a volunteer Air Raid Warden which was a vital role for the home front defense during World War II. This signaling the seriousness with which he approached responsibilities from a young age. He belonged to the MI State Troops that were changed to the National Guard which he joined in 1947-1959, devoting 12 years to national and community service.

After graduation in 1949, he worked alongside his father in the oil fields and then worked at Dow Chemical in Midland, Michigan His dedication to public safety was further exemplified during his time in the Michigan State Police from 1957-1989. He served as a trooper in Pontiac and Cheboygan, then was promoted to Detective in East Lansing and then on to Detective Sergeant, Detective Lt and retired with the rank of Detective 1st Lieutenant. Not to settle into a quiet life, he embarked on a new challenge as a private investigator shortly after retirement. His expertise and diligence in security were later recognized by the Lt Governor, Connie Binsfeld, for whom he provided security and was her personal driver during her tenure of 8 years.

He was a respected member of his community and was described by those who knew him as a great boss, coworker, friend, neighbor and a wonderful person. Chuck was also known for his insightful and analytical mind. These traits not only made him a beloved figure but also a respected professional in every field he ventured into.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Charles can be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Williamston Food Bank, Williamston Fraternal Order of Erpu4u4agles, or the MSTAF (Michigan State Police), Organizations that reflect his lifelong dedication to helping others and serving his community.
