Virgin was born to Virgin Lee Cross Sr. and Pansy Cross in Houston, Texas on March 3, 1941. He was the second oldest of his three siblings; Betty, Selena, and Calvin. Virgin graduated from B.C. Elmore High School in 1959 and later joined the United States Air Force in April, 1960. During his service, he was stationed in Clark Air Force Base, Philippines where he met the love of his life Fe Mandap Cross. They were married on November 25, 1968 and had four beautiful children: Cathy, David, Lee, and Chris. They have been married for fifty-six years. Virgin was a very kind, lovable humble man who was known for his outgoing and welcoming spirit. He loved his grandchildren deeply and was affectionately known to them as “Pepa.” Virgin earned the following awards in the military: Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, AF(Air Force) Commendation Medal with one oak leaf cluster, Joint Service Achievement Medal, AF Outstanding Unit Award with two oak leaf clusters, AF Organization Excellence Award with one oak leaf cluster, AF Good Conduct Medal with seven oak leaf clusters, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, AF Overseas Long Tour Ribbon with two oak leaf clusters, AF Longevity Service Award Ribbon with five oak leaf clusters, NCO Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon, AF Training Ribbon, and Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. Virgin served the military for twenty-seven years retiring honorably in 1988 in Newport News, Virginia. Soon after, he worked for the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier until he retired. He honored God by serving his country, his family, and God with dedication and fervor. Virgin was a follower of Jesus Christ and a beloved deacon at his church. He worked in the outreach and children’s ministry. He loved going to bible study and sharing the word of God with family and friends. Virgin is preceded in death by his mother Pansy Cross; father Virgin L. Cross Sr.; sisters Selena Moore, Simone Cross, and Betty Smith. He leaves to cherish his most precious memories to his wife Fe Cross; children Cathy Stephens(Mervin), David Cross(Brenna), Lee Cross, and Chris Cross(Nakia); grandchildren Tyler Cross, Sydney Cross, Jalen Cross, Nakial Cross, Breanna Stephens, and Kyran Cross; brothers Calvin Cross, Xavier Cross; Step-Mother Doris Cross; sisters Rocheryl Thompson(Jerul), Maya Cross, Nivia Harris(Cedric); nieces Tiffany Carter(Arthur), Karen Smith, Angel Moore, Kayla and Kamori Randall, and Kindall Thompson; nephews Tony Cross, Malcolm Boyd, Jimmy Moore, and Calvin Cross Jr.; and a host of great nieces, nephews and cousins. A visitation for Virgin will be held Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, Virginia 23188. A funeral service will occur Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 11:00 AM, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, Virginia 23188. A reception after service will occur Wednesday, July 24, 2024, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, Virginia 23188. A committal ceremony with military honors will occur Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, Virginia.
