Robert Allen Richardson, 58, of Williamsburg, Virginia passed away peacefully on November 29, 2024. We thank the tenacious doctors of VCU Hospital for their steadfast approach to heal Robert. While awaiting a liver transplant, Robert contracted a virus and unfortunately he deteriorated quickly. He was a pillar in our lives and he will forever be missed.
Born on April 14, 1966, in Tacoma Washington, Robert led a life marked by dedication, service, and love. At the young age of 17, Robert joined the Army, demonstrating his commitment to his country, a value he held dear throughout his life. At 20, he transitioned to the Navy, furthering his service. In 1987, he married the love of his life, Kelli, and together they settled in Virginia, where they raised their family.
Robert was a devoted husband to Kelli for 37 years and a loving father to his daughters, Amanda Harvey and Elizabeth Richardson. He cherished his role as a grandfather to Clara Jane and Sullivan Kyle Harvey, often found down on the floor playing with them, singing nursery rhymes and making the kids laugh until they got the hiccups. His family was his pride, and he fiercely defended and supported them.
Professionally, Robert served as a logistics engineer for the government, a role he fulfilled with dedication and integrity. He was an active member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), reflecting his lifelong commitment to supporting fellow veterans.
Robert's passions included fishing, gardening, and enjoying Disney cruises. He was known for his kindness, always the first to lend a helping hand, and for his creativity, often making up songs to entertain his loved ones. His beloved dog, Sam, was a constant companion.
He is survived by his wife, Kelli; daughters Amanda (Kyle) Harvey and Elizabeth Richardson; brother-in-law Bryan Baker; sister Anita Hart; and grandchildren Clara Jane and Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nola and Clyde Richardson, brothers Larry Richardson and Al Mendoza, and beloved dog Cleveland.
A visitation will be held at Nelsen Funeral Home in Williamsburg, Virginia, on December 11, 2024, at 11 a.m., followed by a service at 12 p.m. Robert's legacy of love, service, and patriotism will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
