He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew and Gertrude Wintercorn; and brother, Andy Wintercorn.
Dick met his wife of almost 66 years, Eleanor “Ellie” Wintercorn, in high school, where they both played in the orchestra. They later dated while they both attended Rockford College in Rockford, Illinois.
For three years, Dick worked as a physicist and mathematician at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. He then went on to attend George Washington University in DC for law. Before his retirement and move to Williamsburg in 1995, he worked for the U.S. Patent and Trademark office.
A renaissance man of his time, he was a traveled musician early on but gave it up during his career, and it was not until coming to Williamsburg that he picked back up his passion for music. With his wife accompanying, Dick played the cello around town, and performed for the patients in the lobby of Sentara Williamsburg. Dick also enjoyed golf, and participated in the Fords Colony Theater Club where he sang and did comedy.
Dick is survived by his wife, Eleanor Wintercorn; and his nephew and three nieces and their families.
A visitation will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday September 18, 2024 at St. Olaf Catholic Church, 104 Norge Ln, Williamsburg, VA 23188 with a service to follow at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place after the service.
