He is preceded in death by his parents, Ocie Fraser Murray, Sr. and Pearl Glascock Murray, and his sister, Patricia Murray Owen.
Ocie was born and raised in Virgilina, Virginia. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Elon University in 1964, his law degree from The College of William and Mary, Marshall-Wythe School of Law in 1967, and a L.L.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. He was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1967 and the North Carolina Bar in 1971.
He began his career with the Office of Chief Counsel of the Internal Revenue Service. He was a former IRS Trial Attorney with considerable skills and insight in the practice of law and dispute resolution. Ocie handled a broad and diverse range of business transactions, tax planning, and tax controversies with the Internal Revenue Service.
Ocie entered into private practice in Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1972. For the last 50 plus years, he has represented individuals and businesses in multiple areas of the law. He was well known in the North Carolina legal community for his expertise in taxation, trust and estate planning, probate, and corporate law. He was the Senior Partner in Murray and Craven, L.L.P.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Deborah Mixon Murray; three sons and their families, Michael Eugene Murray, wife Katherine Porter Murray, their children Dylan Matthew and Connor Michael Murray of Manakin-Sabot, Virginia; David Cabel Murray, wife Kimberly Nicewonder, their children Finn Fraser and Penelope Annabelle Murray of Tampa, Florida; Jason Brabham Murray, wife Marjorie Land, and their daughter Stella Rae Murray of Denver, Colorado; brother, Allen Murray and wife Wanda of Cluster Springs, Virginia; brother-in-law, George Owen of Burlington, North Carolina; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His family is extremely grateful for the faithful assistance of his Legal Partner Nicole Corley.
A service will take place on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at 2:00pm at the Williamsburg Community Chapel, 3899 John Tyler Hwy, Williamsburg, VA 23185.
