Mildred Edwards Ball

The daughter of Calvin Leslie Edwards, Sr. and Pearl Apperson Edwards, Millie was born July 11, 1922 in Newport News, VA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Ball; sister, Elizabeth Bever; and brother, Calvin L. Edwards, Jr.

Millie resided in Chicago for over 31 years and was an employee of Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company. She was a dedicated volunteer for FISH for more than 25 years, a member of The Woman’s Club of Toano, and worshipped at the New Zion Baptist Church in Williamsburg. Millie also had many friends for whom she was a pet sitter, watching cats and dogs.

She is survived by her son, Leslie Arnold Ball of Chicago; sister, Doris E. Saunders; her nieces who knew her as Aunt "Woody", Nancy Saunders Cowan (David) and Ann Saunders Sage (Russell); nephews, Melvin H. Saunders (Sylvia) and Calvin E. Saunders (Saundra); several great-nieces and great-nephews; and cherished friend, Nancy Gore (Ron).

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to Gentiva Hospice and the caring staff at Dominion Village for taking great care of Woody towards the end of her life.
