Michael Ruben Lohr Jr.

Michael Ruben Lohr, 83 of Williamsburg, VA, passed away on July 17, 2022. “Mike” or “Buddy” as he was known to his family and friends, was survived by his wife of 20 years, Shiela Lawrence Lohr, of Williamsburg, VA, his daughters Sherri Lohr (Mary) of Cape Coral, FL, Cindy Hamilton (Rich) of Orlando, FL, and his step-son, David Lawrence of Williamsburg, VA. Mike was survived by nieces Theresa Alfano (Lou), Susan Nelson (Craig) and Angie Zepp (Gene) and by grand-nieces and nephews Josh, Griffin, Olivia, Tommy, Cecilia and Sophia. He was predeceased by his sister Elaine Lohr Wizda (Andy), of Sykesville, MD. Born in Washington, DC on June 2, 1939, Mike graduated from Henry Clay High School in Ashland, VA in 1956. He married Patricia Anne Burr in October of 1959, and moved to Richmond, VA. Patricia Lohr pre-deceased Mike on April 12, 1995. Mike joined the Navy in October 1956 after high school and served several years. He received an honorable discharge from the Navy in May of 1960. Mike demonstrated a work and personal ethical responsibility that was beyond reproach. At age 23 he joined the Dupont Spruance plant in Richmond, VA for an exciting career that began on the assembly lines and rose to the position of Architectural Engineer. During his career, he facilitated the on-point planning and architectural design of Dupont plants in Indonesia, Turkey and elsewhere, making a global impact. Mike volunteered for the Chesterfield County Fire Department for more than 15 years, and rose to District Chief of the Company 2 Fire Station at a time when it was staffed entirely by volunteers. Mike enjoyed boating for his entire life. He also had a passion for surf-fishing on the Outer Banks, his four-wheel drive club, and fishing for Blue and Striper in the Chesapeake Bay off Mattox Creek and Windmill Point. He was a long time member of the Virginia Yacht Club, past Commodore of the Potomac River Yacht Club and member of the Saints and Sinners WW Workman Tent. His family cottage in Ebb Tide, VA was a place where family, friends and work colleagues spent many joyful days, including teaching his children how to swim and inviting everyone he came in contact with for a weekend at the “River.” Mike continued his unwavering work ethic after retirement when he went to work for Blue Water Yachts in Hampton, VA His boating passions led him to meet his current wife, Shiela in 1995. He and Shiela formed a strong connection over their passion for the water. They married in 2002 and lived on their yacht in Hampton, VA until settling in Williamsburg. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 1:00 PM with visitation and a reception following at Clover Hill Church, 12310 Bailey Bridge Road, Midlothian, VA 23112.
