Louis Hallman Hunt, Jr., was called home to be with his heavenly Father on December 2, 2022, at the age of 91. He was born on the family farm in Amelia County, Virginia on January 24, 1931, the only son of the late Louis H. Hunt, Sr. and Ruth Adams Hunt (Dowd). He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Geneva Hopkins Hunt; his four children, Ben Hunt (Susan), Robert Hunt, Anne Hunt Granger (Doug) and Amy Hunt Shaifer (Peter); his grandchildren, Lauren Hunt Fournier (Brian), Scott Granger, Jr., Jesse Granger Izquierdo (Julian), Gordon Louis Granger, Benjamin Edward Granger, Daniel Shaifer, Drew Shaifer and Jacob Shaifer; and his great grandchildren, Harper and Turner Fournier.
Louis graduated from Morrison High School, Class of 1948. After serving in the Air Force, he graduated from the University of South Carolina, Class of 1957. Louis started his career as an electronic engineer at the Naval Weapons Station, Yorktown, before joining the team at NASA, Hampton. His career at NASA included specialty satellite projects/LDEF launches from Wallops Island, VA, and Cape Canaveral, FL. Louis retired in 1985 so he could pursue his ‘second career’ and passion as a woodworker. Louis was known for his attention to detail, custom cabinetry and specialty moldings showcased in many area homes to include his homes in Queens Lake, Ewell Road and Kitty Hawk, NC. Louis was always willing to share his knowledge about machinery and woodworking with others.
He also loved watching the New York Yankees, the Washington Redskins and all sports played by his children and grandchildren.
Louis was a faithful member of Grace Baptist Church, Williamsburg, and more recently Liberty Baptist Church, Lanexa. He was a Sunday School teacher, deacon, Bible study leader and member of the finance committee. Louis also served as Project Manager for the new church building at Liberty Baptist Church. He always found a way to share his faith with others in everyday life.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Liberty Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 8 from 5 to 7pm. Services will be held at 10:30am, Friday, December 9 with a reception to follow.
