Lisa J. Cockes Judkins, age 54, died peacefully at her home in Williamsburg on May 16, 2014. She leaves behind one adult son, Daniel, born during her marriage to Tommy L. Judkins of Surry, Virginia. She is also survived by her mother, Shirley S. Cockes of Elberon, Virginia, and two sisters, Suzie Madigan of Litchfield, Maine and Vicki C. Thompson of Yorktown, Virginia. Lisa's nieces and nephews live in Virginia, Oregon and Korea.
Lisa made many friends throughout her employment career, at the Surrey House Restaurant, First Virginia Bank-Commonwealth, S. Wallace Edwards & Sons, Farmers United, Gwaltney of Smithfield, Colonial Community Corrections, and Williamsburg Area Transit Authority. She was particularly excited to have received her most recent job with the Williamsburg City Manager's office and spoke highly of the supportive staff. Lisa was a graduate of Tidewater Academy and Mary Washington College.
Lisa filled quiet time with reading, knitting, decorating and intimate meals with friends but thoroughly enjoyed social gatherings with the office team or a group of friends. She had a quick wit, good sense of humor and loving personality. Over the past couple of years, she enjoyed long talks and travels with a close personal friend. A lover of birds and animals, Lisa's kind, sensitive nature led her to adopt pets from local animal rescues; she leaves three behind.
The family acknowleges the many expressions of sympathy already received and extends appreciation to those who cared for Lisa at Peninsula Cancer Institute, Riverside Doctors' Hospital and Riverside Hospice. The family will hold a private family service in accordance with Lisa's wishes. Suggested charities include local cancer-related organizations or Pawsitively Precious Adoptions, 4280 Teakwood Dr., Williamsburg, VA 23188.
