Lin was born on November 1, 1927 in Ohio. He was predeceased by his father, Linwood Earl Ashby, Sr., his mother, Alma Bauder, a stepmother, Bertie G. Ashby and a brother, Albert R. Ashby, Sr.
Lin is survived by his devoted wife of forty years, Ethel Gaiser Ashby, a son, Mark Lavern Ashby and his wife Stephanie, a daughter, Allison Tamara (Tammy) Ashby, two grandchildren, Shannon Ashby Pitcock and Ryan J.R. Ashby, and one great grandchild, Lorien Elizabeth Pitcock. Additional survivors include a host of family and friends.
Lin attended the Officer Training Program at Penn State prior to serving in the Pacific with the United States Coast Guard. After his service he attended the University of Delaware.
Lin was a respected sales and marketing businessman involved in various aspects of the travel industry for many years. He held high ranking positions with Pan Am Airlines and a Vice Presidency with Koln-Dusseldorf Steamship Company. A longtime resident of Connecticut, Lin retired in South Carolina where he was very active in the Exchange Club, a philanthropic organization that was very involved with Habitat for Humanity as well as many other community projects. Later moving to Williamsburg, Va., Lin enjoyed volunteering at Historic Jamestown and served as a committee member on several of the WindsorMeade resident committees.
Services will be conducted Thursday, September 22, at 11am at Saint Bede Catholic Church, 3686 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA 23188.
