James “Jamie” Byron McRoy, 25, passed away January 9, 2023 following a traffic accident. Born July 16, 1997, son of James M. and Bonnie McRoy. He graduated from Isle of Wight Academy, received his BS from Old Dominion University and his MA from Georgetown University. He was currently employed by ECS of Chesapeake as a field/lab technician.
Jamie loved school and learning. He impressed many of his teachers with his intelligence and insightful thinking. At Isle of Wight Academy he ran cross country and participated in many academic competitions. He studied hard, including summers, and graduated from Old Dominion University in 2-1/2 years and from Georgetown 2 years later.
Jamie was first and foremost a movie fan, from the time he saw his first movie. He watched nearly every movie that came out, whether in the theater or on DVD or on his phone. He was also collecting [in the thousands] and watching old movies, particularly Oscar nominees and winners. He could discuss the plot, tell you the actors, directors, screenwriters, soundtrack [Score], release date and the company who released hundreds of movies. He enjoyed nothing more than a spirited discussion of a movie’s value, or a request for movie recommendations. Growing up he thought he wanted to be an actor or maybe a director; but later studied marketing with an eye towards making movie trailers.
Jamie had recently discovered karaoke and trivia and loved both of them, along with all of the good friends he made. Of course Jamie, aka, “Eggs” also was an avid “Pokemon” player: from Day One He loved to score extras of hard to find items and trade them to his friends.
He was a talented cook and a definite foodie. He enjoyed making special dishes for his family and friends, and was always ready to try a new food, no matter how strange it sounded to the rest of us.
Jamie loved to travel, even on long car trips he never complained. He traveled all around the country both with family and on his own. He always had to drive the extra 100 miles so he could add another state to his considerable list.
He loved dogs and cats and they loved him. He especially loved his orange cat, Pumpkin and the dog, Trixie, he grew up with. He couldn’t bear to see any animal mistreated.
Jamie is survived by his parents, James and Bonnie McRoy; His uncle, William Marsh (Mandi) of VT, great-uncle, Roy Young (Mabel) of Florida; and several cousins. He was predeceased by his grandmother, Myrtle McRoy and grandfather, Herb Marsh.
