Harriet Ann Bowe Burnett, 88, of Williamsburg, Virginia passed peacefully on Tuesday, August 23, 2022.
Ann was born on September 11, 1933, in Greenville, Mississippi to Margaret Grace Goshorn Bowe and Hector Arthur Bowe. She grew up on Marathon Plantation in the Mississippi Delta and graduated from Stephens College (high school and college) in Columbia, Missouri. On March 17, 1956, she married her long-time sweetheart, William ‘Bill’ McKee Burnett who passed on February 13, 2022.
Ann devoted her life to raising her daughters and supporting her husband’s U.S. Navy military career. She volunteered at the various Episcopal Churches they attended and served on the Altar Guild. She enjoyed traveling the world with her husband, hiking, biking, playing cards, reading, and especially spending time with family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Ann was preceded in death by her sisters, Peggy McMillen and Dorothy Mai Wingerd; and son-in-law, Don Haney. She is survived by her two daughters: Kathy Haney and Patty Hartman (Jim); four grandchildren: Zach Haney (Katie), Ben Haney, Kati Picanco (Dolfo), and Sarah Graves (Tony); two great grandchildren: Elliot Haney and Mila Picanco; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at 11:00am in the Historic Chapel at Hickory Neck Episcopal Church. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
