Edward (Bill) Rodgers Judy died peacefully in his home on April 29, 2016 at the age of 87 after lengthy illnesses. Bill was born in Canton, Ohio and continued his early education in Ohio. Bill’s advanced studies continued in Ohio, graduating from Miami University. While at Miami University, he was enrolled in the NROTC program and upon graduation, he served three years in the U.S. Navy, carrying out his duties in Korea and on warships. After Lieutenant Judy was honorably discharged from the Navy, he further advanced his education at Moritz College of Law, Ohio State University. Bill’s career was spent primarily in commercial real estate, employed many years by the F.W. Woolworth Co., retiring in New York City as Vice President, Real Estate.
Bill spent his retirement years with his wife, Audrey, residing in Flat Rock, NC and Williamsburg, VA. He enjoyed playing participatory sports – golf, tennis, bowling, bocce and bridge as a pastime. In earlier years, he enjoyed skiing and was always an avid reader.
Bill was preceded in death by his father Wilfred Judy, his mother Mary Rodgers Judy, infant son David, sister Frances Duchemin and her husband Rod, and his niece Deborah Duchemin. His is survived by his wife Audrey; daughters Dr. Karen Judy and her husband William Thome, and Elizabeth Judy; son Thomas Judy and his wife Kelley. Also surviving are his stepchildren Charles Vasconez and his wife Dr. Carol Wilson, Kathryn Vasconez, John Jay Vasconez and his wife Maria Quintana; five grandchildren, Morgan and Jessica Thome, Karly, Hannah and Lauren Judy; his nephews Eric and Dan Duchemin and their families.
Bill was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church and a member of St. Bede’s in Williamsburg.
Nelsen Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting with all private services. A private Celebration of Life memorial will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk, VA. The family requests that memorial donations be made to your local Humane Society or animal shelter.
