Obituary of Daniel Timothy McHugh

Col. Daniel T. McHugh, (U.S. Army, Ret.), passed away November 29, 2015, at the age of 90. The youngest of seven children, he was born in Cranston, Rhode Island and a resident of Williamsburg, Virginia for the past 27 years. He was drafted at 18 to serve our country during World War II, and continued to serve in both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He attended Boston University, Syracuse University and the Industrial College of Armed Forces. After Army retirement, he worked for the National Academy of Science in Washington, D.C. He was also a member of St. Bede Catholic Church, past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council 6828, Knights of Columbus Assembly 2184, Disabled America Veterans Chapter 34, Young at Heart, and Senior Center. He is preceded in death by his parents, Patrick J. McHugh and Nora McGovern McHugh; brothers, Thomas J. McHugh and Patrick F. McHugh; sisters, Mary McCarten, Rose Fay, Katherine Hampson and Sister Honora (Anna) McHugh R.S.M. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Catherine Buckley McHugh; son Dan McHugh and his wife, Kim; two daughters, Kathy Tirey, and Jeanne O’Hara and her husband, Neal; grandchildren, Kate McHugh, James O’Hara, Colleen O’Hara, Andy O’Hara and Christine O’Hara; and multiple nieces and nephews. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff from Sentara Hospice Services, for their care and generosity in his final days. Memorial donations may be made in Col.
