Cathy was a military wife who supported her husband faithfully throughout his military career. She worked small part-time jobs to help the family financially while stationed at different Air Force bases over the years. After their move to Langley AFB, Cathy became enamored with Colonial Williamsburg and fostered her passion for colonial history. She was part of the first Governor’s Palace academy and began work as a costumed historical interpreter. Over her 25 years with the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, she interpreted every building in the Historic Area, including Carter’s Grove and Bassett Hall. She developed several history walks and was chosen to work with Elderhostel and school groups. In her free time, she was an avid reader, industrious cross stitcher and a volunteer for the Toano Historical Society. She came from a long line of Lutheran pastors, including her father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncles and cousins, and was a devoted member of King of Glory Lutheran Church of New Kent County in Providence Forge, VA.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Michael. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of more than 56 years, Jim of Toano; and brother Timothy Hughes (Diane) of Madison, WI. Also surviving are daughters, Tammy Foster (David) of Williamsburg and Amy Edmonds of Toano; granddaughters, BreAnna Faulkner of Arlington, VA and Sarah Foster of Vienna, VA; grandsons, Ryan Foster and William Faulkner both of Newport News, VA; aunt, Eleanor Arneson of Mount Horeb, WI, and many special cousins, nieces, and nephews.
