Our deeply beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Carol Laverne Kube Walls Lewis, was called to her heavenly home on Monday, December 2nd, just three and a half weeks shy of her 90th birthday.
The daughter of Gertrude Julia Colsher and John Julius Kube, and the stepdaughter of Roy Tolbert Walls, she was born and spent her early childhood in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, before moving as a young teenager to the seashore of Monmouth County, New Jersey, where she spent most of her adulthood. She married the love of her life, George Edward Lewis, a pilot for Pan American Airways with whom she travelled the world, in 1956, and was an exceptionally devoted mother and wife.
Later in life, she moved with her husband to Williamsburg—which she considered to be the very best place one could ever wish to live—to be near her dearly loved daughter and grandchildren. There she became an active member of the Women’s Club of Williamsburg, Mad Hatters, Vintage Ladies, and Williamsburg United Methodist Church, where she continued her lifelong calling of ministering to children by teaching Sunday School.
She enjoyed playing bridge, entertaining and cooking for family and friends, and, especially, taking her grandchildren on fondly remembered trips to Walt Disney World (“The Happiest Place on Earth” was very much a reflection of her own ethos). Slow to take offense and quick to forgive, she was loved by all for her sweet and sunny disposition and generous nature and always had a positive, can-do attitude that buoyed her through life’s vicissitudes and illnesses, including her final one. She will be forever missed.
In addition to her parents and stepfather, Carol was predeceased by her husband, George Edward Lewis of Williamsburg; and a brother, Kenneth John Kube (wife Mildred) of Sea Bright, New Jersey. Carol is survived by her daughter, Claudia Diane Lewis Ross (husband Glenn) of Williamsburg; grandchildren, Emma Lewis Ross Woodward (husband Joseph) of Oxfordshire, England, Samuel Lewis Ross (wife Natasha Chatterjee) of London, England, and Harry George Lewis Ross of Herndon, Virginia; great-grandson, Edgar Arthur John Woodward of Oxfordshire, England; and brother, Roy Tolbert Walls, Jr. (wife Nancy Giles) of Little Silver, New Jersey.
Floral tributes were an express wish of the deceased, but memorial contributions may also be made to the Salvation Army.
