Carlysle Arden Douglas

LCDR Carlysle (Carl) Douglas died on July 16, 2021. He was born on January 16, 1939 in Durango, Colorado as the fifth child of Orville and Ethel Douglas. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Pearl Soper Douglas, and his youngest son, Barry D. Douglas.
He is survived by a son, Scott A. Douglas; a sister, Betty Ralston (Ben); and a brother, Ralph Douglas.
Carl served in the Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer on amphibious and logistic ships. He was the Commanding Officer of Nye County. He received a Master's Degree in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School. His decorations include the Bronze Star with Combat "V", the Navy Commendation Medal with "V", and various Republic of Vietnam Medals.
In civilian life, he worked for a Defense Consultant in Northern Virginia and at the Center for Naval Analyses. Carl was the author of a book about the death of his son, and recently several articles on religion and politics. He was a member of the Navy League, the Colonial Area Republican Men's Association, and Walnut Hills Baptist Church.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 beginning at 2PM at Nelsen Funeral Home and Crematory, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, Williamsburg VA 23188. He will be interred at a date to be announced in Arlington National Cemetery.
