Obituary of Brenda L. Price

IN THE CARE OF

Nelsen Williamsburg

Brenda L. Price of Williamsburg, formerly of Jackson, Michigan passed away on December 4, 2023. She was 73. Brenda was the first child born to Robert and Joan Price on June 3, 1950. She graduated from Northwest High School in 1968, then attended Western Michigan University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education in 1972. After graduation, Brenda worked for Harvard University in their Professional Development Department before being admitted to Tulane University where she earned her master’s degree in accounting. Following her graduation from Tulane, she moved to Williamsburg, Virginia. Her forever job was with John Yancy Companies where she worked for over 30 years before retiring as Vice President of Finance. She was also a Realtor in the Williamsburg area. All this after being told by her Admission Advisor at Western Michigan that her career choice was being a teacher or secretary. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Joan Price, Jackson, MI and her brother-In-Law, Dr. Russell West, (Karen) Johnson City, TN. She is survived by her companion of over 30 years; Fred (Mac) McEwen; her brothers and sister, Dr. Daniel Price (Cathi), Jackson, MI; Karen Price West, Johnson City, TN, David Price (Mary), Harrison Twp, MI, and her two cats, Molly and Sammy. She loved, followed, and tried to keep in touch with all her 10 nieces and nephews: Joseph Price (Mary), Chantilly, VA; Danielle Nowlin (Ryan), Fairfax Station, VA; Mahalia Gronigan (Joe), Orlando, FL; Lance Price, Orlando, FL; Aaron West (Kelly), Spokane, WA; Nathan West (Rachel), Wauwatosa WI; Evan West, Johnson City, TN; Andrea Andree (Craig), Verona, WI; Adam Price (Kate), Grosse Pointe, MI; Leah Odean (Graham), Troy, MI. Brenda’s life was met with challenges. She was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes at the age of 13 and was on Insulin her entire life. In 2000 at the age of 50, less than a year after losing both her parents in a car accident, she suffered a stroke, which cost her the use of her dominant right arm and required extensive therapy to get functionality back in her legs and speech. She became left-handed, fought hard in therapy, and worked many more years before retiring. Brenda loved cats. There were always at least two cats living with her or as she would say, she was living with them. She was well liked by everyone who knew or worked with her, and she was very generous, giving annually to many charities. At the time of her stroke, she was serving as President of the Newport News United Way Agency. A visitation will place at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Road, on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 10am to 11am, and a service will begin at 11am. In lieu of flowers, if you would like to make a contribution in honor of Brenda, please do so to your favorite charity. She would not want it any other way. May her memory be eternal. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.NelsenWilliamsburg.com.
