HUDKINS, Opal Fay – (age 102) was born on March 29, 1916 in Flora, Oregon to Edgar and Edna Garrett. Her family moved about Eastern Oregon for several years. After finishing high school in Lostine, Oregon she went to Spokane to attend Kinman Business School and after graduation went to work for Beardmore Moving Company.
Accepting the challenge of a blind date with her roommate Hazel Kunz and Hazel’s boyfriend Del Wall, Opal met Franklin Hudkins, and the rest is history. After their marriage in 1937 she moved to the farm near Wilbur.
Their marriage produced three children, Karen Miller of Spokane, Diana Lundstrom of Port Orchard and David Hudkins of Portland, Oregon.
After Franklin passed away in 1983, Opal stayed on the farm for several years before moving back to Spokane where she lived until her death.
She was active in Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Friends of 7 and the Community Presbyterian Church.
Opal is preceded in death by her husband, grandson Brian Lundstrom, sisters Anna Robertson, Cleta Carson, Ella Daggett, Maxine Lamm and Bonnie Demitruk.
Besides her three children, she leaves one brother, Dave Garrett of Kennewick, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Sherman Cemetery Chapel. Burial will follow in the Sherman Cemetery.
