Shari Bretches

Shari Bretches of Andover, Kansas, passed away on May 19, 2023. She was 57. Shari was born the daughter of Max and Carolyn Bretches on December 4, 1965, in Wellington, Kansas. She graduated from Wellington High School in the class of 1984.

Although her father was the driver’s ed teacher in Wellington, Shari was voted fastest driver in her class. She had many friends and spent summers at Wellington Lake on Max’s boat, where she learned to water ski. Summer was her favorite season - she loved suntanning at the pool.

Shari enjoyed going out with her friends - whether to Caldwell dances or just dragging Main in Wellington. Her friends remember her great car stereo and listening to music.

Shari attended the University of Kansas and was a lifelong Jayhawk and KU basketball fan.

In 1994, Shari became a mother to Halie. It was her proudest moment and the two had a close bond through the years. Her granddaughter Skylar was born in 2012 and their world became even brighter.

Shari’s career was in accounting and she worked at Koch Industries for over 20 years. In her free time, she enjoyed friends, garage sales and getting Mexican food and margaritas. In recent years, Carolyn, Shari, Halie and Skylar enjoyed taking trips to places like Kansas City, Lindsborg, and Pawhuska.

She was preceded in death by her father, Max Bretches; grandparents, Stanley and Alice Bretches, Harold and Blenda Young. Survivors include her daughter, Halie Bretches; mother, Carolyn Bretches; granddaughter, Skylar Romans; brother, Craig Bretches and wife Carna, Nephew, Tanner Bretches, Niece; Morgan Bretches; beloved cat, Smokey and many extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life service for Shari will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday June 22, 2023 at NewSpring Church in the North Auditorium, 12200 E. 21st St. N., Wichita, Kansas 67206.
