She is survived by her siblings: Jim (Jodean) Newsted, Michelle (Steven-deceased) Garcia, Shane Nguyen, Lauren (Luis) Nguyen-Rogel. Niece's: Alicia Garcia, Tonya (Tristan) Schmitz, Nina Mills. Nephews: Steven Marcus (Shannan Clover) Garcia, Duke Newsted, Jude Nguyen-Rogel. Great Nieces: Stevie Garcia and Amethyst Mills. Great Nephews: Kian Dussault and Johnny Bascue, and aunt Jean (Arthur Steven) Hill.
She is survived by her uncle Bong-deceased (Gam) Nguyen, aunt Mimi Mai-deceased (Hoa Nguyen), aunt Nga (Giang Do-deceased) Nguyen, uncles: Khoa (Tram) Nguyen, Kha-deceased (Cuc) Nguyen, Khue (Debbie) Nguyen, Son (Rhonda) Nguyen, aunt Mai-Lan (Julian) Brown and numerous cousins.
Shanna graduated from Newton High School in '95. She graduated from KU with a bachelor degree in French History and spent a year in France as an exchange student. After graduation, she lived in Hawaii. She returned to KU, and subsequently to Connecticut, as well as spent time in China, where she studied holistic medicine, focusing on acupuncture. She moved back home in 2011 and lived a simple life in Newton.
Shanna was adventurous. She learned scuba diving in Belize. She loved the Phish Band music and was an avid follower, attending over 100 of their concerts.
A celebration of life for Shanna will be held Sunday, October 29, 2023. Holy Rosary at 2:30 pm and Mass at 3:00 pm at Our Lady of Guadelupe Catholic Church in Newton. Immediately following the service, a family gathering will be at East Lake Volunteer Hall in Newton.
