Ronald Lee Spurgeon was born November 2, 1959 in Wichita, Kansas the son of R.L. and Donna (Murray) Spurgeon. Ron was an East High graduate and received his Master’s Degree from Wichita State, and his J.D. from President’s University in 2003.
He started working in law enforcement directly out of high school while working on his college degrees. He worked as a Sgt. For the Butler County Sheriff’s office for 17 years. He then went to work for the Sedgwick County Police and retired as a Lieutenant in 2018.
He met his partner Stacey Williamson when they were classmates in high school. They reconnected in 2007 at a class reunion.
Ron enjoyed the outdoors, especially spending time at his farm near Stillwater, OK where he mowed and tinkered on anything he could find. He liked riding horses and doing ancestry research.
Preceding Ron in death were his parents.
Surviving family member include his partner Stacey Williamson, children; Brandon Blaney, Jason Spurgeon (Jenny), Colette Grier (Tim), and Garrett Spurgeon. Surviving siblings are Larry Spurgeon (Deb), Bev Shafer (Chris), Allen Spurgeon (Dana), and Kenny Spurgeon. Also surviving are his grandchildren Aiden, Addison, Nathan, Alivia, and Benjamin.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 11:00AM at the Sharon Baptist Church, 2221 Oliver in Wichita.
A visitation with Ron’s family will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Friday, August 27 at Hillside Funeral Home, 2929 W. 13th Street N, Wichita, KS 67203
