Ronald "Ron" Lee Marcum, age 64, of Wichita, KS passed away on Monday, August 29, 2022. Ron was born August 21, 1958 in Hoisington, KS to his parents John Oliver Marcum and Theodosia Amelia Penka Marcum. Ron married Melissa Marie Sublett in 1985. Ron and Melissa were blessed with two children, Monae in 1986 and Samuel in 1991.
Ron attended Schweiter Technical College from 1992 to 1993 where he received a Horticultural degree. He worked at Dutch's Greenhouse as a greenhouse manager for 28 years, since October 1994. He held seminars at Botanica, Dutch's Greenhouse, Sedgwick County Extension, and local churches. He taught classes to Master Gardeners as well as anyone who wanted to attend. He was locally known as the "container garden guru" where he created and named unique themed flower combinations.
Ron is survived by his wife, Melissa Marie Marcum; daughter Monae Alyssa Marcum Faber (Aaron); son Samuel Marrell Marcum, all of Wichita, KS; brother Dale Marcum (Nancy) of Haysville, KS; extended family in Augusta, Fort Scott, Great Bend, Haysville, Hoisington, Olathe, Wichita, KS, Maize, MS, and Augusta, GA.
He is preceded in death by his father John Oliver Marcum (1981); mother Theodosia Amelia Penka Marcum (1998); sister Barbara Ann Marcum Conditt (Virgil) (2000); and brother John Oliver Marcum II (2021).
A Visitation Wake for family and friends of Ron was held on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita, KS 67206, followed by a Celebration of Life at 10:00 AM. Burial occurred on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Kechi Township Cemetery, 6523 N. Hillside Ave., Park City, KS 67219.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ron's memory may be made to the family and may be sent to Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita, KS 67206.
