Robert “Brother Bob”, 83, of Wichita, Kansas passed away Monday November 25, 2019. Bob was born on May 31 1936 in Kirkwood, Missouri to Reginald and Grace Brandt. He was the youngest of six children: brothers Charles, Yale, Maurice (“Mike”), John Aaron (“Jack”), and his sister Beatrice (“Tiny”). As a young man, Bob was an archery enthusiast, winning the Missouri state championship and coming second nationally when he competed. He joined the Army at age 22, serving three years before being honorably discharged. He then went on to work for a subcontractor for NASA, including working on the Gemini and Mercury space capsules.
Bob and Doris Brandt were united in marriage on July 12 1963. They were blessed with three sons: Alan, Matt, and Jonathan Brandt. Bob felt a strong calling to the ministry and subsequently he studied diligently for his master’s degree in Religious Education while living in New Orleans, Louisiana. After receiving his ordination, Bob became a music director for Rock Hill Baptist Church. He went on to became Minister for Education for Red Bridge Baptist church, before being called to be pastor for the Leavenworth Baptist Church. His ministry, however, was never limited to the time spent in church.
Though he took on other careers over his lifetime, he kept his faith central to everything he did. Bob touched many lives through his leadership and example in devotion. He was a caretaker to his wife after her own decline in health, and once again used that time to bring joy and faith into the lives of the people around him. He was as much a confidant for strangers as he was his grandchildren. He had a great love of black licorice, reading for entertainment and knowledge, and listening to beautiful music. He passed away early Monday morning after a long struggle with his health. Though Bob has been called home to Jesus, he will be remembered and missed by those he left behind.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister and brothers. Survivors include his wife; Doris Brandt, sons; Robert Alan (Doniaell) Brandt, Matthew (Dee) Brandt, Jonathan (Kimberly) Brandt, grandchildren; Melissa (Cody) Arnett, Meagan (John Russo) Brandt, Madison (Taylor) Riddle, Dustin (Yolanda) Brandt, Paige (Nick Bell) Brandt, Tanner Brandt, Tyler (Madison) Brandt and great-grandchildren; Bradley Brandt, Orlando Palm, Asher Bell, Autumn Arnett, Alexander Brandt, TJ Riddle, Gentry Bell and Viktor Brandt. Visitation will be at 9am on Friday November 29, 2019 with funeral service at 10am both at Lakeview Funeral Home, 12100 E. 13th St. N., Wichita. Burial will follow at Lakeview Cemetery, Wichita.
