Melvin "Mel" Teeters was born February 1, 1940 to Melvin and Edna (Barber) Teeters of Liberal, KS. He grew up living in 2 box cars provided by the Red Cross after the family home was flooded. He attended school in Liberal until grade 9 and began working at the local bowling alley as a pin setter at age 14. He often shared about how his boss had to drive him home after work because of the city curfew. This bowling job sparked a lifelong love of bowling allowing him to perfect his skill having 5 perfect (300) games and regularly achieving "League Champion" awards amongst various bowling leagues. At his peak, he would bowl 5 nights a week and would usually hang out with friends at the bowling alley even on nights he wasn't bowling. Mel took great pride at the opportunity to teach his grandson Lucas how to become a proficient bowler.
Mel was drafted into the Army from 1966-1969 where he spent time in Missouri, Texas and Germany. He was trained as a Mechanic and typically transported prisoners. After the military, Mel settled down in Wichita, KS. He primarily worked as a mechanic and eventually retired from Raytheon as a sheet metal technician in 2006.
Melvin (83) passed away peacefully at home, with his daughter, the light of his life, Tina, by his side, after a short time on hospice December 24, 2023.
