Marlyn Leo Hengel, 5/13/1932 – 6/27/2024, age 92, of Wichita, KS, passed peacefully with his loved ones at his side. Marlyn was born on May 13th, 1932 in Redwood Falls, Minnesota. He was born to Leo and Bernice (Fletcher) Hengel and was the eldest of six children. He was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Bernice (Fletcher) Hengel of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, wife Joan (Torney) Hengel, brother Roger Hengel, sister Joyce (Hengel) Rothmeier, sister Colleen (Hengel) Berkner and son in law Frank Davis.
Marlyn served his country in the United States Air Force for 22 years and retired from the US Postal Service in 1994 after 20 years. Marlyn, along with his wife, Joan, left Sleepy Eye in 1952 when Marlyn joined the Air Force. Through the upcoming years, they traveled with their four children around the world and made life-long memories that are still cherished today. After retiring from the Air Force, Marlyn and his family settled in Wichita, Kansas.
Marlyn was an athlete who loved all sports – whether he was participating, watching, or coaching, he was there. His passion for travel and golf in retirement allowed him to play around the world including a bucket list round in Scotland.
He is survived by his children Roger (Marla) Hengel, Douglas (Michelle) Hengel, Teresa Davis and Milissa (Gary Mobley) Hengel, all of Wichita, KS. Grandchildren Rachel (Wes) Davis and Mitchell Davis of Wichita, KS. Scott Hengel (deceased) and Adam Hengel of Wichita, KS. Erica (Keith) Overton of Knoxville, TN. Douglas A Hengel Jr., Terica Hengel, Hunter Hengel and Cooper Hengel, all of Wichita, KS. Great grandchildren Keaton Overton, Jaycie Overton and Gemma Overton of Knoxville, TN. Savanna Zimmer, Tabitha Hengel, Alyssa Hengel, Johnny Hengel and Aaron Maxwell Hengel of Wichita, KS. Sisters Phyllis Freeman of Faribault, MN, and Cindy (Nelson) Ladd of Belle Plain, MN.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM on Monday, July 8, 2024, at Resthaven Mortuary, 11800 West Highway 54, Wichita, Kansas 67209.
Private Family Graveside Service will take place.
